Out finding and enjoying a nice sunny Sunday

DSC00167

Well the start of the week was alright not much really happened. Most of the days was spent out finding. Talking to a lot of people. The sun believe it or not has started to come out and stay out. Which has been very nice. Living in Scotland you tend to miss the sun for a few months out of the year. So that has made people a bit more talkative which is always good. Well I think it was about Wednesday I ran into this guy on the street and we had a brief conversation but he said he would be interested in meeting up. So we set a time to meet the following day. The rest of the day was pretty alright.

A few appointments fell through but oh well. Well the next day comes and we do a bit of service in the morning for a member. Then we meet with the guy that I spoke to yesterday. Well he is from Greek and he loves the Book of Mormon. It was actually a pretty great lesson. He has had questions about Christianity for a long time. He himself is a Christian but he still has had these questions and we answered them for him and he loved it. So that was just a great first lesson that we had him and we are hoping to see him the next week and get him to church. Friday came around, which was May the 4th. So that was a pretty great day. I just enjoyed the day overall.

We went on exchanges with the Inverness Elders and I was with Elder Barlow. Pretty cool guy. So we had a great time out finding on the street. We meet this one girl in the morning and was chatting then out of nowhere she just says “Ah screw it, we’ll just go sit down now and have a chat.” So we sit down and to be honest it really didn’t go anywhere. It was funny though. She did want to learn more of like the overall beliefs but didn’t want to do anything with it. So we kept on finding. It wasn’t until the evening time where we ran into the woman from Maine that we set up a really great appointment. She’s pretty honest and has read all the religious texts, well I think most of them and she asked for a Book of Mormon. Because I guess she has never heard of us before. So that was interesting. Hoping to meet with her later today.

Then the weekend came around and we were out finding again. Sat down with a few people but over it all it was pretty normal. During the day there was some trade union march thingy, not too sure exactly but that was interesting. Then Elder Palmer and Elder Masulonis came with us to this Mexican place for Cinco de Mayo. So I think after my many travels this place was the closest in getting it right. It was very good. So I did have to tell them well done. Because there are no good Mexican food places in Scotland. Then Sunday came around! We had a great time because our friend Tunde came and is looking to be baptized. We had a few other… interesting people come as well. Didn’t invite them but they were nice just a bit odd. Not really sure what to think. But it was great and the rest of the day was out finding and enjoying a nice sunny Sunday.

So I believe next Sunday, May 13th is mother’s day. So I should be calling home and chatting with everyone again.

My thoughts in the evening time has been going to my plan for home. I’ll sit there and ponder how I’m going to continue the habits of my mission and use it in my daily life.

DSC00099

Well, first thing first. My friend Richard Coffey has received his mission call! He has been called to the Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia Mission!!!! I’m very excited for him to go and serve the people there. However, my friend leaves July 11th, five days before I get home. I’ll miss my friend for another 2 years. So I’ll get to see him after 4 years.

So the start of the week was pretty fun. We’ve been working on this video for incoming missionaries so we went to a castle to go get some shots. We aren’t done with it yet so we’ll get to finish that today and then I’ll send it to everyone so we can all have a laugh. So I will be honest with this week. We have been just out finding on the street and chapping doors this whole time.

We were able to teach our friend Tunde, We brought Bro. Zimmerman along and we sat down with her and she loves the Book of Mormon but still wants to go to her church. Which is fine but we want her to come and experience what has been restored so we had a great lesson about scripture study and church and really just what it is all about. So after that, we have just been out and about really.

Another funny story from this week. We were out chapping and we chap this one door. This young kid comes to the door. “Hey there, are your parents’ home?” and then answer “Yeah one sec”. Shuts the doors “MOM! MORMONS!” We just had to have a bit of laugh. Then we hear some chatting and then the door opens and this other kid about the same age opens the door then in a deep voice says “I’m Stephens Father” We all just had a laugh together it was pretty funny. Then the rest of the time we’ve just run into some normal people. We talked to one guy that was telling us about weed and how that has been curing his skin cancer for like a couple of years. So pretty normal stuff. To be honest that’s about it. We haven’t been able to get out to that house but we will.

I’ll probably have more exciting stories for next week. Because we have a lot planned for this coming week with exchanges and meetings and out talking to people.

DSC00124

Well, I guess to go from our monthly topic to the next. From an example to Joseph Smith. I had a day this week where my companion sadly felt ill for the whole day. So that left me with a whole day with the Book of Mormon and some church videos. But more so the Book of Mormon. Well of course at this time in my mission my thoughts in the evening time has been going to my plan for home. I’ll sit there and ponder how I’m going to continue the habits of my mission and use it in my daily life. What are the simple things I need to do? Well, President Nelson gave me the answer in conference talk on Revelation. For the Heavens to be opened in my life. There are 4 things I need to do. 1. Have increased Purity 2. Exact Obedience to the Commandments 3. Daily Feasting on the Book of Mormon 4. Temple and Family History Work. These are the focuses to have that will help not only myself but all of us. So an early morning in the Book of Mormon can set the course of a day with what the Lord would want us to do. It helps us become an example and look to the example of others to know what to do.

And so an example to us on this topic of planning for the future and searching for answers is Joseph Smith. “The Prophet Joseph Smith set a pattern for us to follow in resolving our questions. Drawn to the promise of James that if we lack wisdom we may ask of God, the boy Joseph took his question directly to Heavenly Father. He sought personal revelation, and his seeking opened this last dispensation.” (From President Nelsons talk)

So I have put into practice the example of Joseph Smith and have spiritual planned the simple things to do in the coming days. The promise from President Nelson is if I do this I will grow into the principle of Revelation. The same is for anyone else that follows this counsel from the prophet.

Well, hope all goes with the teeth! I expect a video.

Well moral of the story… mom was right with Family History!

Scotland/Ireland Mission Leadership Council

Well, what a week! I can say that I have the official day of my return will be *Drum roll* July 16! 12 weeks to go and I’m not counting.

The start of the week was pretty dang crazy and I’ll get to some stuff later on in the email that mom will love to hear about. So at the start of the week, because it was stake conference here, we had the whole Islands District living with us! We had all 8 Elders in our flat for a few days and what mess it was. But it’s all clean now. So Monday we were running around dropping missionaries off at the train station and picking them up later in the evening time, so just a bit all over the place and trying to get some other stuff done. But that was pretty much it. Then the following day we were out and about again with a few missionaries and we went to our Islands District meeting. Which was pretty fun. But after all the missionaries left we are out finding and later on in the day we went and did some service for some members. They needed help moving some dirt. So good thing they had the right missionary with the right kind of skills with dirt! I do have to say after the geo lab I’m very skilled in the ways of moving dirt. So we did that for an hour or two. The Sisters came along to help. It was all good stuff. Had some fun and then had some dinner. The members that we had dinner with were super cool they were telling us all about the missionary stuff that they are doing and handing out copies of the Book of Mormon and teaching all their friends about the church. It was pretty great. Well while dinner is going on I get a text from the Shetland Elders, they were supposed to be on the ferry back to Shetland but turns out the ferry left sooner than they thought and missed it. So we call them up and get out the door to go pick them up. The got to spend another day in the Deen.

Scotland/Ireland Mission Zone Leaders

Well in the evening time we went around to this lady that we had found a few days again. We knock on the door and she opens. She is from Slovakia and so we got to teach her and her English is pretty good. But just a few days ago we gave her a Book of Mormon in her language and she has been reading it and she told us that she believes it’s true! And she believes in that Joseph Smith was a prophet! It was so great to sit down and teach her all about the Restoration. I think the Restoration is one of my favorite lessons just because how much it makes sense and how much it helps people understand that God still speaks to us today. So we had a great lesson. Then the following day really turned in a lot of finding. Just kind of out and about, the Shetland Elders got their ferry. Thursday rocks around and we had our Mission Leadership Council. We were all still speaking about what President Nelson told all the missionaries here in the U.K. and Ireland. He spoke about when we first meet people and what to talk about. Then he told us to go up to people and tell them who you are and ask them who they are. Then tell them about your family and ask about their family. Ask them if they can name their parents, their grandparents. Can they name all 8 of their great-grandparents? Not very many people can do that. So tell them that we want to help them find their ancestors. Tell them we want to help them find their story. So during MLC we spoke a lot about different things. About Love, and Meekness and Lowliness of heart. We discussed the future of the mission and where it’s going. Then we got to Family History. Written on the board was the blessings that come from Family History from Elder Renlund’s talk in General Conference. So we shared experiences and I raised my hand and shared about the hobby of my mother in family history. So this went on for a while. Then the following day we went out to find. I then recommitted myself to the work for these final few months and to help as a missionary to find success. So going out with this in mind to share family history of course, I’m still going to talk about other things but I was on the lookout to introduce family history. Well we spoke to a few people, got a few appointments during this time, I spoke to one man and the time came. He started to tell me about his ancestors from Norway. I asked if he could share any stories from his grandparents, he shared a few. I then asked what about your great-grandparents? Only one could be named. I then told him how we can help find his family and learn more of his story. He got pretty excited and before I could set anything up he was asking for my number and times to meet.  So after this nice chat we were then heading back to the car to go somewhere. Well we stopped people along the way. I then spoke to this one girl and almost the same thing happened. It actually started with speaking about Sisters and hair color. Hmm sounds familiar? Well she asked for a number and time to help her find her family. Well moral of the story… mom was right with Family History! We are now just waiting to meet up with them and get them to the family history center. Well Sunday did come around and it was pretty nice. We didn’t have any investigators there, but we did get one of our recent converts that went less active there. He had a great experience with conference and managed to get Sundays off from work so he can get to church. He shared a great story about it with us. Then we had an American dinner with the Zimmerman’s! Oh how I miss American BBQ!! Don’t get me wrong Scottish food is great but it’s ruined my diet. So much fat. So I look forward to my simple meals back home again. But it was all good. They had a family friend whose son just called to this mission and they were on the phone with them when we came so this nice family asked us a bunch of questions about the mission and it was pretty fun.  So what a week eh? So to Annukkah, I have been doing my best to be an example to other missionaries in my leadership calling. My mission president was having a good laugh with me the other day about it. Then early this week I’ve been studying leadership actually in our missionary handbook and it spoke a lot about how to be an example and what I’m really supposed to do as a leader. Also I heard from a few other missionaries in my past areas that some people that I found have now been baptized and are active in the church with their families. In the past there have been 3 families that I have found and now they are going to the temple. So pretty cool stuff!

It is only that Holy Ghost that can have an effect on others as to help them understand and learn what is true and what is not.

20180409_151652

I love the talk from President Oaks from this past General Conference about the small and simple things. It’s always a great reminder and it’s what I really do my best at teaching my investigators about. The 3 simplest things to do that will carry us through the rest of this mortal life into Eternal Life is Prayer, The Book of Mormon, and attending Church, so all good stuff.

Well, this week was pretty exciting, we’ve been out on the street a lot trying of course to find new investigators to teach! We’ve been having a hard time on the main street known as Union Street. You know for a street named Union the people on that street aren’t really unified. Oh well, so we’ve been moving around to smaller streets where we’ve been finding more people! I’ve been telling missionaries for months that it’s not where the most people are that you find. Yet sadly many come in and see the big group and just assume that is where they are needed. No, it’s where the Lord needs you and where the Lord needs you is to minister to one individual at a time, just as the savior did! So it’s been pretty fun.

There are so many people that I run into on a daily basis that it’s hard to keep track of all of them. But I’ll share a fun moment with teaching a small family. So we got this referral from one of the teams here in Aberdeen. They passed them over to us because this guy lives out in Stonehaven and we are the only ones with a car. So no one knows the name of this guy. All we know he is from somewhere in Africa and he wants to meet. So I get ahold of him. At first, he wasn’t free to meet till about a month, but after some small talk, we were able to get a time to meet on the coming Saturday.  Well, this Saturday we had President Donaldson coming up to Aberdeen to interview all the missionaries in the zone. So we were helping with that when we had to go for this lesson. We show up and it’s a man named Ola. So we sit down in his home and get talking, learn more about him and he learns more about us. Then he asked the question “So why do you have the Book of Mormon?” and away we go! First lesson it went so well. I know the hardest part of the message is learning about the great apostasy, but he understood it. We finished teaching and he was more than willing to read the Book of Mormon. However, at this point, his wife came home and she wasn’t very keen on some things. But we boldly answered her questions as well and nothing to misunderstanding what we taught. Both by the end where more than willing to read the Book of Mormon. Now, none of this happened because we knew the lesson so well. It happened because this man was the example of being open-minded and open to the feelings of the spirit. It is only that Holy Ghost that can have an effect on others as to help them understand and learn what is true and what is not.

So following this lesson we went on with the day. We were out finding a lot and we got the moves call and both of us are staying. We also got the moves call for our zone, so I got to call the missionaries that were staying. Not too many moves out of our zone but its moves right now so we are getting everyone all sorted. Well Sunday was pretty fun we had the Aberdeen stake conference and it was all about the Book of Mormon. I’m grateful that so many other people love the Book of Mormon. President and Sister Donaldson where there and spoke about the Book of Mormon as well both giving powerful testimonies of the Book which they know to be true.

So overall a fun week! But this email is all over the place because we need to get back to helping missionaries move!

Traveling, and a bit more traveling…

We had a pretty exciting week. The start of the week we had like the whole zone come to Aberdeen so we could all travel down to Edinburgh. Monday was just crazy, but the drive down was pretty fun. We get to Edinburgh and we were going to spend the night with the ZL’s down there, but then one of the AP’s called us and told us to come to the mission home. So we went to the Mission Home. Never spent the night in the mission home before so that was pretty new for me. It wasn’t anything exciting, to be honest. But spent the night and off we were to the conference.

The conference was pretty good. President Donaldson had a friend that was visiting him. His friend Brother Baker was one of President Donaldson’s former companions from his mission here in Scotland. So he got up at the start of the meeting and spoke to all of us. Spoke for a long time but it was all pretty good stuff. President Donaldson told us how Elder Baker would go into an area and find all these people then he would come in and baptize them all. The rest of the conference was all about the Sabbath Day and Baptism.

Then we had a fun zone council at the end of it. Where we spoke to the missionaries in our zone about basic missionary skills and attitude. We are going to be trying out a few different things in the zone and getting everyone all excited about it all.

Well, the conference came to an end and once again we were on the road back to Aberdeen. See Aberdeen is great but we just have drive everywhere so much. So for the rest of the week, we were all around the city finding new people. We went on an exchange with the Elders from Stornoway. I was with Elder Agovofo, I have no idea how to spell his name but he is from Russia. He actually came out with me. So I haven’t seen him really since the MTC and I think Glasgow, but it was a fun day with him.

So Saturday came around and we got to drive back to Edinburgh for an exchange there. I went off with Elder Grant who turns out lives right next to Jake Gardner. So that was bit interesting to chat throughout the day about all the people that we knew. The exchange was good, we mostly just found the whole day. Then once again we had the long drive all the back to Aberdeen.

That was pretty much the week. This week is going to be pretty cool. President Nelson and Elder Holland will be visiting the U.K. and there will be a special broadcast out to Great Britain and Ireland. Then we’ll have stake conference here in Aberdeen on Saturday and Sunday. So should be all exciting. Also, it will be moves call on Saturday. No, it hasn’t been 6 weeks. This transfer was only 4 weeks. So yes after this Saturday I will have one transfer left on my mission.

So I got the shirts and hats we will go and get some great photos today for P-day!

We must learn to gain personal revelation if we are to go through the future and what it tells.

What a spirit filled week with General Conference. This past week for Elder Smith and I has been a bit interesting. We were in the city a lot, just out trying to find some new investigators and well we found a few! We have been able to teach a few new friends and set them on a date to be baptized. But because of some funny stories they are either a bit crazy or going on holiday for a few weeks or they are going home to England in a few weeks as well! So just trying to find the elect of God you could say. But every soul is important so we are doing our best. So a lot of our week is out walking around Union Street in the middle of Aberdeen. Thursday was pretty fun we did an exchange with the Seaton Elders, Elder Palmer (previous companion) and his trainee Elder Masulonis. I went with Elder Masulonis and it was pretty dang fun. There are so many new missionaries in the mission. It’s pretty crazy. Everyone I know has pretty much gone home and now I’m just meeting all these new trainees! They’ll do some really great things in this mission. So the whole day we were just out talking to everyone and we did a pretty good job by the end of the day. Then the rest of the week has just gone on by.

So far I have been able to watch all of General Conference but the Sunday Afternoon. However, I did see the announcements for the change in Home and Visiting teaching. There was a lot of announcements made at this conference. A lot of my thoughts are it just goes to show how the Lord is hastening the work. There was a lot of great things that were taught in the conference and I’ll be going back to watch them all again for sure in the coming weeks. I loved a lot of talks and I found each one very insightful and inspiring. When watching General Conference I like to think back to Elder Anderson’s talk about General Conference talks. He explained in a previous conference about the time and preparation that goes into each and every talk. Some talks take years to put together while others take only a few short weeks. But at any moment the Lord’s voice is with every speaker. I will have to say that my favorite talk so far was the warning voice of President Nelsen. He has taught us very simply how to gain personal revelation. What I got out of it was that we must learn to gain personal revelation if we are to go through the future and what it tells. Many things are happening in the world and I would say with each passing day we need a prophet’s voice more and more. In his instruction of gaining personal revelation he really put it down to a few simple steps of 1. Finding a place to be alone with the Lord 2. Humble yourself in prayer 3. Listen 4. Record your thoughts and feelings. If we do this then we will be more entitled to receive direction when we need it.

Well, what a week. So much is going on and it’s all hard to put down in an email. But tomorrow we are heading down to Edinburgh for an All Scotland Conference. So a fun-filled week of conferences! We have been having all the missionaries come down to Aberdeen so that we can then later today travel down to Dundee and Edinburgh.  Then the conference will be really fun. This will be really my second to the last conference on the mission. As the last one, I’ll be with the going home missionaries for some class thingy. But no worries I’m working hard!

After two years, I can say that our teaching skills have improved.

Well, it’s been a crazy few weeks, to be honest, but it’s been pretty great. So last Monday I got to Aberdeen and the day was a bit all over the place, we had to help missionaries get to their areas. But we got them all back. The islands took a while but I got a story about that in a second. So from Tuesday to Wednesday we were out finding, actually just speaking to people out on the street. I do and don’t like the cities because yes there are a lot of people and we set up a lot of appointments, but not everyone shows up for their appointments. So it’s just kind of a different way for me and missionary work. I’m really used to going out and knocking on doors. I have been on exchanges in the cities, but really only for the day or two. So this has been a bit interesting for me, but all is good. We have had a number of lessons hold and it was really great to teach them. Well, then Thursday we had our MLC or Mission Leadership Council. So Wednesday night we went down to Dundee to spend the night there and then the following morning we got a lift with the Dundee Zone Leaders to Edinburgh. The meeting was really great, It was pretty much all day. So a very long meeting, but had all the good stuff. We went over policies and a bunch of other things that are trying to help the mission, so it was really good. Then we had the long, long drive back to Aberdeen. All good stuff. The next two days went by pretty fast. Saturday Elder Smith actually woke up really sick and so did another missionary in the Aberdeen area. So we did splits with them, and I was off with Elder McDaniel my MTC companion and we did get to teach a lesson together to this guy named Josh. So after two years, I can say that our teaching skills have improved.

20180312_172216 (1)

So just before this, before I forget, the zone leaders before me had made a mistake and that mistake was that they lost the flat key to the Orkney flat. So we sent them up there with a bunch of keys that we were hoping would work. But around 11:30 I get a phone call and they can’t get into their flat. Took a while but I did get a hold of Donna up there and they got to spend the night at her home. But the next day they got in all good. So that was a pretty funny story. So really it’s just been busy and I’ve been all over the place, so I honestly can’t remember anything. But just know it was a good week!

I’ll try my best to check out all those places and next week I’ll have a better email about everything that has happened!

Off to the Aberdeen Zone

IMG_0098

Well, it’s great to hear from you. So yes it was transfers and I got moved back to the Aberdeen Zone again for a third time. However, I don’t have much time to email so this will be short. So back in Aberdeen and I’m the new Zone leader with Elder Smith. So it should be a fun time. Elder Smith is from Australia he has blonde hair and he has a surfboard according to Elder Foster. He worked as a lifeguard saving Elder Kroes from sharks. He likes to talk in a dark voice. A year of Uni as well. Worked at a fruit and veggie shop and he loves bath bombs. He enjoys yoga. That’s about it.

Elder Myers, Skye, Katie, Linda, Elder Augustine

So a lot has happened this past week with teaching Linda, Skye, and Katie. We were all over the place just running around teaching and finding and it was great. And to be honest I can’t remember anything from the past week. But moves call came on Saturday and it was from President. So Church was great, Linda came with the girls and they are all excited for their baptism! Then Monday I was on the train early and I just got to Aberdeen and now I’m running missionaries around for moves.

So I’ll have more to say next week.
So I think I’ll be home July 16? We’ll just go with that.

The Priesthood Authority of God is real. It has been restored to the Earth by a loving God. If we have fallen look to our priesthood leaders. They can and will lift us.

The start of the week was pretty fun. We went over to Kilwinning to check out the Kilwinning Abbey. Nothing really exciting, it’s all just kind of fallen apart, then we went to the Irvine Beach and the Sisters just took a ton of photos so we were there awhile. Not exciting for a P-day but it was alright. The following day we had District meeting and we were on exchanges with the Beith Elders. The meeting was good, the zone leaders came really late because there was a bunch of snow in Paisley. So took them awhile to get out here.

So I was with Elder DeMille. Off we were to go do finding all day long in Irvine. Here in Irvine we have a few people that whenever they see us, they come up to us and they like to speak to us for a very very long time. We give them all nick names. We have Georgie Boy, Anti Doctor Man (Or Stretchy Pants Man), History Man, strange philosophy man, The Sweet Lady, The Big Issue, and The Neds. Well this exchange somehow, just somehow we ran into every single one of them. They are all good people but they aren’t interested and they interrupt us when we try to speak to other people so it was just all over the place for most of the afternoon on Tuesday.

Well in the evening Elder DeMille and I went out chapping. Which was really good because we spoke to a lot of people and got a lot of return appointments, we were able to teach one of those appointments just the other day. I’ll get to that in a min. Well the exchange was successful! So the following day comes around and we just go about the day in the morning. Well we had a lunch appointment all the way over on the other side of our area and it was really good but the bus back got stuck in traffic and we were on the bus a bit longer than we really wanted to be. Oh but before all of that because I’m too lazy right now and fix it, so this all makes sense. But Wednesday morning before the lunch we went and taught Linda! We had Brother Watson (He’s in the Bishopric) come with us to talk about the Word of Wisdom. We go in and sit down with Linda she has her coffee next to her. We start by asking if she has noticed a change in herself and her family with coming to church and what not. She said that she has. We have had a big focus with her with following the prophet. Went on to explain more about following the prophet she agreed and we continued how we need to be obedient to what the prophet asks. Once again she agreed said it was very important. Then the moment Elder Myers has been waiting for (as I asked him to teach the doctrine of the word of wisdom) He told her plainly and simple what the word of wisdom was. Oh the Horror that came to her face! I did my best not to laugh. As he read from the pamphlet she looked at her coffee and back to us and back to her coffee. So we spoke to her about it then the amazing joint teaching comes in. Not only does he explain why he follows the word of wisdom but he shares a story that grossed all us out about coffee and tea. This wise old man shared a story about disgusting coffee and tea. It went something as follows. (This is the simple version) “As a young man he worked as an civil engineer and he would go to work to this work site. There was coffee kettle and the workers would make coffee and tea with it. Well simply enough someone got dirt in the coffee and it became cold and he tried it. It was gross. Then someone made tea and then someone after that made coffee again and offered him some. But when they poured the coffee it still had all the tea and dirt stuff in it.” So kids don’t drink coffee or tea at a work site. He went on to share a story how the Elders when they were teaching him and his family this lesson, the Elders turned to his wife and asked for her fags (cigarettes) and she gave it to them. The Elders then took them all out of the box and smashed them all in front of her. The reaction you can probably guess wasn’t the best. But the Elders took the box with them and put it in there journals as a trophy. Well this was great lesson with Linda as you can tell already. Not only did we teach why we shouldn’t have that stuff and the blessings that come from it but we also got to share gross stories that freaked us all out about going anywhere near that stuff. (To be honest I just thought back to when I would go with Dad to drug court or hear all the stories about the people he has been working with). Well after this long day, we taught a new investigator it was kind of awkward but really cool the same time. She showed up and we spoke but she was just super quiet the whole time and she looked like she was uncomfortable but as the lesson went on she was fine by the end. Over the past few days she has sent us a text telling us how much she has read in the Book of Mormon. Which has been a lot. So that was really cool.

Well Thursday hits! We do a bunch of weekly planning stuff and what not. But one of the appointments that Elder DeMille and I set up was with this woman who had lost her son a few years ago. We meet with her and we asked her why she invited us back. She told us that it was what I said about a message about families. She told us that she wanted to know where her son is. She went on to say how she has searched in faiths and throughout the Bible and she has a minster lady that will come visit her every now and again. But she doesn’t know. Well we told her that we won’t be able to answer her questions but we can tell her where her son is. We shared with her the plan of salvation and how little children are alive in Christ (Moroni 8) her son was 6 when he passed away and wasn’t baptized so she was worried as to what has happened to him. But as we explained more and more her focus became more and more. She amazed by what we had shared with her. Her questions were answered and she just over whelmed with the whole plan. We’ll be going back this week to teach her the Restoration and how we know this. The day went on pretty normal. Meet some interesting people in the street but all was well.

Then Friday! We were all over the place once again running around but not a single person was holding to their appointments. In the evening time we were going to see a member and his family, but we got a text saying that he has to cancel. We also had a joint teach for that but we didn’t want to cancel with the joint teach because he set time aside to come with us. So alright we’ll go by Linda and see how she is doing with the Word of Wisdom. We went around knocked on the door. She looked pretty tired. Because this is the first time she has gone without any of that stuff. She just wanted to stop it all from when we taught her. But as we were speaking to her at the door she fell. Just straight to the floor. We rushed in to see if she was okay. After a few seconds she came to. We helped her to the couch and sat down with her and as we spoke to her we realized that she was having withdrawals. So we ran and got orange juice! Made her drink that and spoke to her a bit more. We left and a doctor came around to check on her. Before we left we gave her a priesthood blessing. We explained to her what it was and she was like alright I guess so. Elder Myers did the blessing and after she gave us this look like something happened and I’m not sure what. But we went back the following day and she was all well and no sign of being tired or anything. She told us how the doctor came around and told her that her blood pressure dropped and it was good thing that she has orange juice because with her sugar levels also being low that was the best thing she could have had at that moment. She told us how she knew this all happened because everything with smoking and coffee. She told us that she hates that stuff and never wants to touch it ever again. She also asked about the priesthood blessing. She told us that she didn’t understand how or why but after everything just seemed okay and she would be better. We told her more of the Authority that we held and of the spiritual and physical healing that comes from a blessing but even more so through the Atonement. We told her about that the power that comes from the Atonement and what it can do for her. This led well into our lesson on the Sabbath day. We taught the power and healing that coming from the sacrament. She was more than willing to keep the Sabbath Holy. As we ended the lesson Skye told us how she was getting more and more excited to get baptized. Then Katie came in and couldn’t understand why she wasn’t able to get baptized even though she was bigger than Skye. Tried to tell her that she has to be 8 but still didn’t click so we’ll teach her about child blessings and that is something that she can get. Well the day went on and Sunday came. We had a great day and it was just a pretty normal day.

Throughout the day I thought back often to the experience with Linda. It reminded me a lot of the story shared by Elder Holland about the boy playing football that got struck with lightening. Now this was nowhere near a flash of lightening. But there does come a time when someone around us will fall either physically OR most of the time spiritually. The door will be opened and our faith will be tested. Are we pure and worthy to step through that door to lift those that have fallen? Most of the time we think or tend to think that all is fine and nothing will happen with in our small world that we have placed ourselves in. However that is not the case. We all will be tested at some point. We need to stand ready at the door. For either one day the savior will knock and will we be ready for that knock? I’m grateful to have a companion such as Elder Myers that was ready to help. With all his heart and a simple phrase he was able to comfort and say you will be well. The Priesthood Authority of God is real. It has been restored to the Earth by a loving God. If we have fallen look to our priesthood leaders. They can and will lift us.
I think the topic can be priesthood.
