I am moving! Going to Inverness!

Alright so this might be a short email not sure, but I am moving! I’m going to Inverness! So I’m going more North! Should be an exciting time! I’ll be white washing in with Elder Ryan who is from England. So right now I’m in Dundee emailing, waiting for my train at 3:48 to head up to Aberdeen.

Eder Peterson has gone home, Elder Foster is off to Ireland to Mullingar, and Elder Firstbrook is staying in Montrose and will be serving with Elder Watson (Who was just in Inverness).

I have most of the past week all typed up, but I can’t get it all out because it’s somewhere in my bags.

Oh but don’t worry about the whole money thing it’s all fine. I won’t be buying anything besides a train ticket. So it’s all fine. I had to get a new jacket this past week for the summer rain coming in! It’s been hot here which is great.

So this past week has flown by, we’ve been nervous about moves and unsure what was going to happen with the area. So it’s been a bit stressful but not too much. We were able to get a lot done and go out every day and do some good things.

But everything back home sounds like it has been going great, newspapers and school ending. I’ll have to do the whole photo guessing next week when I have a bit more time to sit down and email. But you will need to get Alex to be an extra in the star wars film that would be amazing. Then I’ll be able to watch it when I get home next year.

So funniest, weirdest, admiring, and stuff learn from the other Elders?

Well each one was unique and funny in his own way. They all just knew how to have a good laugh. The English always have their sass so that’s pretty funny sometimes. Then each one had different things about them that made them pretty great. I have learned a lot from my time in Arbroath/ Montrose it has been a big help for me and getting me to a point where I know better what to do in missionary work. I don’t always know, but now I feel more prepared for the random things that are thrown at me in my mission.

I’ve really enjoyed my time in Arbroath. The past week may have been a bit crazy with everything building up to moves, but it has been great. I have a lot of photos from this past week so you’ll have to wait till next week to see them all.

*Thank you to all the wonderful members in the Montrose ward who have served Elder Augustine during his time with you. We have been so grateful as his family to receive pictures of him. We love you and thank you!

One thing that I tend to miss out is what we really learn from the 1st chapter of 1 Nephi.

May 15, 2017

So today was P-day! I was able to email and I heard a wonderful testimony from my mother! I am so thankful for her and everything that she has done for me and still does for me. She is a blessing in my life and to my siblings. So today we pretty much just went shopping and then just really relaxed the whole day. We’ve been running around the past few P-days so we took this one easy so nothing really happened. To end the P-day we did our Book of Mormon study group with some members. We’ve started that and Bishop has suggested to do it on Monday night for all those members that are single and don’t have any family around to do a family home evening. So we’ve been doing that as kind of a family home evening and hopefully get some members in the habit of doing FHE’s more often in their home. The goal is to get members to understand the importance of growing the gospel in their homes so that they can then have a foundation to then to reach out to others and invite them along with them. So today was the second time meeting and last time we read all the testimonies and the introduction to the book of Mormon. Then today we read the first 4 chapters in 1 Nephi and we were able to talk a lot about what was going on in those chapters. And there was some things that I learned as well. One thing that I tend to miss out is what we really learn from the 1st chapter of 1 Nephi. Lehi has a vision that tells him about the end of Jerusalem and as he’s out teaching this, the young Nephi wants to know if his father is telling the truth because Lehi is saying a lot of bold things. But simple Nephi goes and prays and asks God about the teachings of his father, and the Spirit of the Lord comes to Nephi and very simply comforts him and he knows that what his father is teaching is true. Nephi didn’t get a vision or a dream, he simply got the testifying feeling from the Spirit that the teachings of his father is true, and he stuck to it. So we had a great discussion all about those chapters. Then after we were around the church because we were putting together a poster to hand out. The poster is for our fireside that we will be doing here soon. We are going to play the movie Meet the Mormons at the church and we are asking all the members to come and to invite all their friends and family and just everyone. So we’ll see what happens with that!

May 16, 2017

Today was the Scotland East Conference up in Aberdeen. So we woke up about 6ish this morning and got ready for the day. We then got a bus at 7 up to Aberdeen for the conference. The ride was pretty simple nothing to crazy happened. Got up there just fine and we head over to the train station cause that is where there are other missionaries with cars picking everyone up and driving them over to the church. And there were cars for everyone but us. So we had to wait for someone to come around and pick us up. And I do believe that we were the last ones to get to the conference. So the meeting was great. Heard a lot on giving it our all and we talked a lot about a general conference talk from Elder Sabin’s talk this past general conference. We then had a really great instruction from President and Sister Donaldson about charity. Heard some incoming testimonies and heard some departing ones. And guess who I got to see for the last time? Elder Magby! He is back in Scotland so I got to see him for the last time before he goes home in two weeks. That was pretty great to see him. He is a wonderful guy and one of my favorite companions. So then there was some more talks about a few different things. It was all really good. So then we had some food and got to stick around and mingle with some of the other Elders and Sisters. Then we all went back to our areas. We of course got the bus back and that took a while but we got back in time for a quick dinner and then went off to Arbroath to go chapping. There was a lot of mean people out tonight. It was kind of weird, but the last house was a nice lady and she talked to us for a few minutes, and that was the day!

May 17, 2017

Alright so this morning started off with a great workout from Insanity! I was so dead at the end, but it was pretty great. So today was just kind of an odd day. We planned and I spent my studies in the Book of Mormon still in 1 Nephi. Then we went and got the bus to Arbroath. We’ve been trying to put together a poster for a little fireside but we still need to make a few changes to it tomorrow. Don’t have a lot of time to work on it. So we went around street contacting and we were planning on seeing an investigator but she had to cancel on us so plans kind of changed. She took a bit of an early lunch and went on street contacting. We were walking around and I saw this girl and her shirt had a big mustache on it so I went up to her and I said “Hey I mustache you a question” she then put her finger up to her lip and she had a mustache tattoo on her finger it was pretty funny. So were able to talk to her and we set up a time to sit down with her so we’ll see where that goes.  We were then able to go and see our friend Fred. Fred has been having a hard time with a few different things but we are really pushing to get him ready for Baptism. Hopefully we’ll get him ready. So after Fred we go and sit down at a bench for companion study, and we get a text from the other Elders saying that President is interviewing them at the flat. We were supposed to be doing interviews tomorrow but that didn’t happen. So it was just a surprise. So after President was done with the other two, we got a call from them and they told us that President will be meeting with us in half an hour at the train station. So we made our way up there and we stop people along the way. President was up there waiting for us and we get there and he and Sister Donaldson took us around Arbroath telling us all about the different places he lived and the people that he taught there. He then took us over to the cliffs were we had our interviews and we talked about the area and different things. He then took us out to dinner! We had a great time with him and Sister Donaldson just the most amazing people ever, they are so lovely and funny. We didn’t stay for desert, but he took us over to McDonalds and we got ice cream there. Then he dropped us off after showing us some more places. Where we went out and did some more missionary work for the rest of the night.

May 18, 2017

Alright so today was probably not the greatest but it was alright. So this morning we had an appointment with this guy and we had his address, we went around but he wasn’t in so we went back to the town center to do street contacting, but nothing was really coming from that. So we had lunch and this seagull was like ready to attack and take our lunch. We then had another lesson but then that canceled so that was a bummer because I was really looking forward to going around and seeing that person. We had a great lesson planned but didn’t get to do it. So we went back to street contacting and going around to some different areas in Arbroath. We’ll probably just try chapping most of the time now because we aren’t really finding that many people. So we had companion study which we studied charity. So that was really fun, and we went back out and did some work. We went and got a milkshake for like 5mins because we were just getting tired and no one was talking to us today. Elder Fosters levels went pretty high so he got all tired and stuff, but he had his medicine and we went on with the day. We came back to Arbroath and had a great dinner with the Aluds and then we went out chapping and using door hangers. So we’ll see and that really was the whole day, nothing really exciting.

May 19-21

So not much has really happened the past few days. We’ve been just going out and trying to find people hasn’t been too exciting.

So Sunday was Mom’s and Annukkah’s birthday! So Happy Birthday you guys! I loved the videos and all the photos very much. Sunday was pretty great we had a great dinner with the Stronach’s and Sister Stronach made the best steak pie and she also had homemade sticky pudding, it was so good! So the rest of the time has been all normal. This week is going to be a pretty fun week, we’ll see what happens. It sounds like you are going to have a fun week with summer coming up. Can’t wait to hear more thank you!

Do we only almost…?

Elder Augustine on splits with Elder Firstbrook in Arbroath

May 9, 2017

So today we had district meeting and that was a pretty great meeting. We talked a lot about being a successful missionary and really what it means to us to be a missionary. Also just our visions for how we do the work and what not. So then after District meeting we went on exchanges and I was with Elder Firstbrook. We went to Arbroath and did some street contacting and what not. Didn’t find anyone,l we had some really good conversations but didn’t really go anywhere. So we moved on and dinner was all good. So in the evening we went out chapping and at first nothing was really coming from it till one door. We knocked and this older lady answered the door and she told us to come in and talk to her and her husband so we went in and talked to them. She asked a lot of questions. She told us that she has been a church goer for her whole life and has been going to St. Andrews here in Arbroath, and we were able to leave a Book of Mormon and we will be coming back next Wednesday to talk more about it and see if she read any of it. She said she would so we’ll see. It was a pretty cool experience.

May 10, 2017

Today was an alight day. Wasn’t feeling too good throughout the day but we did our best. We were able to set up about 3 appointments throughout the day so that was really good. One for tomorrow so we’ll see if that holds and it should be good! We’ve been really pushing to try different things to find more people. And it’s kind of working so far. So that’s pretty cool. We had dinner later that night with Sister Craib that was really good and then we just kind of made our way back to the flat.

May 11-14, 2017

To be honest. I’ve been so tired coming back to the flat that I’ve forgotten to type up my days. So don’t worry here it is.

So pretty much the biggest highlight of the week was going back to this one home that told us to come back the next day. So we did and we came back and we meet up with Becky. Becky is a lovely lady she has a 3yr old son and is just kind of curious about life. We were able to sit down with her and talk about a few things then share the restoration lesson with her which she said made sense. We were able to get her with a baptism date and I’m really excited! So we’ll see how she does and I pray that she will be able to meet with us again.

Then the rest of the days was mostly out finding and looking for people.

And that kind of brings us to today!

So yesterday after some long time finding. Oh real fast we did kind of meet up with a guy but only for a few mins and talked about a few things and this guy is named David. And David is really more than anything just curious about religions. So he has been going around and going to all the different churches and what not and seeing what they are about. He came to our church a long time ago but hasn’t come back at all. So a few days ago we saw him and we were able to set a time to meet up with him and that was yesterday. So we talked about us and what not and he is looking for then invited him to meet up with us again on Wednesday. So we’ll see if that holds. So then later we got a bus all the way to Dundee and we spent the night with the Zone leaders in their flat, and wasn’t that bad. So got up in the morning and it was stake conference here in Dundee! So we all just kind of slowly got ready for the day because it’s the day of rest. We get ready and we head out the door and Elder Foster goes with Elder Tolk to a ward meeting and I go with Elder Worley to go and pick up some other Elders for the meetings and head to the church.

So after a while everyone is at the church and the meeting starts. It was a great meeting I really loved it a lot. I think they were replacing the stake presidency or something to be honest I couldn’t really understand the one guy that was talking. But it all goes great and I really loved the talks. I really enjoyed President and Sister Donaldson’s talks the most. Sister Donaldson talked about the Holy Ghost and really what it does for us and the really if we want to know anything from God then we have to go where God is. Now this doesn’t mean go to like Heaven but go to the Temple, go to church, read the scriptures, go to him in prayer, and so on. I guess it’s kind of like if revelation is a waterfall and you really wanted to know you aren’t just going to go up to the waterfall and reach and just barely touch it. You are going to want to go all the way under and get as much as you can. It was a really great talk. Then President got up and he talked about Paul going in front of King Agrippa and giving his testimony of Christ. Then King Agrippa saying to Paul “you almost convinced me to be a Christian”. President Donaldson asked the question “do you almost do something” to become closer to God? And then it was just a bunch of questions like “do we almost read the scriptures, do we almost do our home teaching. Do we almost pray every night?” It was pretty good questions to make you think about things. Then the stake president gave a great talk on a few things that could just over all improve our lives. 1. Get rid of all negative feeling 2. Pray and read scripture 3. Serve others. The reasons that come from all of those are amazing and improve our whole lives so much.

Elder Augustine online talking to his family for Mother’s Day

So then we came back to Montrose and I called home and talked to everyone! It was a great time to talk to everyone! And that was just about the day!

Thank you so much for the talk and the testimony! I loved it very much. This week should be a really good week for Elder Foster and me. We’ll be having a few more lessons so we’ll be able to share all these wonderful things with everyone that we are seeing.

We both squeezed this guy’s nose!

May 1, 2017

Today was P-day! I would say it was a pretty good day. It all started with some shopping in the morning and then we went to the church to go email. But before going to the church we went and got some haircuts. I don’t think the guys doing the haircuts spoke English. Well almost all the barber places they don’t speak English really. So we went to the church and I figured out how to use the keyboard and that was confusing at first but then I got it and it is pretty cool! Makes emailing really simple. Don’t worry I still read everyone’s email. So after the emailing Elder Peterson and I came back to the flat for some lunch. Then we were like well we have a few hours so we went to the beach, and we made a sandcastle! The sand was great and it all started off great. At first we really didn’t know what we were doing so it just kind of turned into a blob of sand. Then we stacked up the sand and we had a little mote around it. We got a bunch of shells and rocks and really turned it into a sandman. But then it fell over… So it was a blob again. Then we watched the ocean just flatten our sand blob. We named it Alfred. So we all came back to the flat and I cooked dinner, felt like a good American meal was needed so Burgers it was! We then made our way to Arbroath and we spent the rest of the night chapping on doors. While we were chapping there was a cat that was following us around so we named him Elder Stubs. It was pretty great till a dog chased him off, and that ended the night!

May 2, 2017

Today was district meeting in Montrose. It started off great till I was asked to speak about the front cover of our mission plan. There is one scripture on the front and a phrase that says “To Bring Us to Him”. So I had to think of something to teach everyone about that. I did a great job as always, then had a good instruction about being positive. After wards we had exchanges, So I was off with Elder Peterson today in Montrose and Elder Foster was off with Elder Firstbrook. Elder Peterson and I started off the day with some finding and we weren’t having too much luck. So as we were walking around we did stop this one lady that just crossed the street and we had a great chat with her! And she invited us to come over so that was great. Hopefully they’ll be able to meet up with her. Then shortly after that we were able to find another person. Also while we were walking around there was this swan along the path and as we walked passed it, it started to like hiss at us and kind of come after us. I was about to be attacked by a swan! Out of my whole mission so far no dog attacks but a swan attack! Well the good thing is that it didn’t attack so that was good. Had some companion study after that we were just kind of asking each other questions about the priesthood and what not so it turned into a pretty cool learning experience in the scriptures about the priesthood. Following that we went back out for some more finding and went around to try by so less actives but didn’t get anyone. Well people answered the door but they then shut them right when they saw us. So after some try byes we then came back again for some great food! We made some coconut chicken/ shrimp tacos. It was pretty good but not sure if the stomach agrees with that… So after dinner we went down to the church to go and meet up with the Bishop to talk to him for a few mins and get some stuff from him for us to do. Then we went by to the guy named Mike. Mike is great guy he just having a hard time with a few things and I really want to help him but he just all over the place I have no idea where to even to start but Elder Peterson and Elder Firstbrook will be working with him and trying to help him out. That pretty much ended the night!

May 3, 2017

So it was a pretty good day I would say so myself. This morning I was studying the topic of Charity. Pretty much if you don’t have charity you are nothing. So have charity so that you can be blessed and always find happiness in serving others! Then Elder Foster and I got out our map and made a list of some less actives for us to go and try by later. So we got the bus to Arbroath and the other day we found the funeral homes in Arbroath because one of the finding ideas for missionaries is to go and offer ourselves as a clergy someone who will talk to people having a hard time with the loss of loved ones. So we went around to the first funeral home and the lady was really nice and we had a pretty good chat about who we are and what we are doing and what and she took our names and number down. The second one was a lot more business-like but she took our names and what not so it’s all good. Shortly after we had lunch went down to Morrison’s for their lunch time deal. So after lunch we had planned to go to the high street and street contact people. But then there were all these charity people like down the whole street. So we went around to go and try by some less actives. The first door we got to we knocked and we hear this “come in!” and I was like no I’m not just walking in. So I shout back “It’s the missionaries we are just wondering if our friend still lives here” And well it wasn’t the member that lived there but this younger girl. So we talked to her and asked her if we could come back and share our message with her and she agreed so we’ll be going around there tomorrow to see where that goes. Then the other less actives we tried by no longer lived there either and the people weren’t real interested in having us around. But we did have a lesson with our investigator Fred! Fred is a real nice guy and he always gives the same answer “without Jesus where would we be?” and I’m like you’re right friend we wouldn’t be here without Jesus Christ. It’s a lot of fun going over there and seeing him. He has been trying really hard to keep the word of wisdom and to try to get to church. So we had a great lesson with him. He had a few questions about Joseph Smith so we watched a few videos about the prophet and talked about him. It went really well. So after that we had a pretty good companion study and went saw Lewis a young lad that will be getting baptized this Sunday. I’m pretty excited to see that. Following we went back to the flat for some dinner real fast. We made Tacos it was pretty good. Then we went back out for the night to do some chapping and like no one was home we chapped on a lot of doors and only like 3 people answered the door. We did see this crazy dog though that was like dancing or something it was pretty crazy. But that pretty much ended the night.

May the 4th be with you in 2017

Today was a weird and great day. So this morning we did some weekly planning and we talked about our goals for the next week and what we can do for finding new investigators. We’ve already started a few different things and today was a pretty cool because of these goals. So we got to Arbroath and we were just kind of talking people around on the streets and we got some lunch and everything was all normal and fine. So we started to wander around again just after lunch because we had a lesson planned for about half an hour after lunch. So we were walking and around coming pass the college that is here in Arbroath. And there was this guy putting on some Football (Soccer) cleats and I went up to him and was asking him about it and talking to him and of course that led into a conversation of who we are and we asked him he wanted to meet up tomorrow and he agreed so we have an appointment with him tomorrow which I’m pretty excited for. So we started off to the lady that we ran into yesterday. Her name is Paige and she is a younger lady and has a small daughter. But we sat down and it was pretty clear that she did not really expect want we were there to share with her but we talked to her and shared the Restoration lesson with her and it went great. She was able to ask a lot of good questions and to we were just able to talk about it all. So we invited her to read and pray about the Book of Mormon and we asked her if she wanted to find out if the Book was true. She told us that she did and that if it was true that would mean there is a true church and a place where she can put her faith into and say without a doubt that it is true. So that was really cool. She isn’t able to come to church this Sunday though sadly. Cause she is working but hopefully next week! So following this lesson we went out to go try by some less actives that live around in the area. So we started off down the road and as we go around to places I usually try to stop people and just talk to them. I saw this one woman a head and I just go “Hello how are you today?” and she kind of stops next to me and pokes her face at me and yells “NOT GOOD!” it made me jump a little but anyways the first house we went to we actually went to the wrong address but the lady that answered said that we can come back next week and we set up time to come and see her so we’ll see how that turns out. We did find the right address where the less active lives. They are moving to England soon so we invited them to come to church and told them that we would love to see them there. And after that we went around to another less active and he wasn’t in but we tried by next door to see if the know the guy and next door is a woman who is a former investigator and she told us to come back tomorrow! So we’ll be going back there tomorrow. Well it was about time for us to companion study now so we started off to the library and there were a group of kids in a garden of one of the homes, they were all calling us on and what not and one of the asked Elder Foster if they could marry him. So we are now heading to the library and probably one of the more awkward moments of the mission so far there was this woman and her kid walking down the street in front of us and the wind picked up and so did her skirt and it was really awkward. It was one of the classic moments of slapping your companions face so we wouldn’t see anything. Well after an awkward moment we got to the library and had a pretty great companion study we studied Joseph Smith and the Book of Mormon. We read a lot of Joseph Smith History and talked about it. So companion study ends and we go out and we start to street contact in the high street not much luck and we kind of have this little loop we do in the high street. And as we are walking back up there was this guy walking our way and he is just waving his hands everywhere in the air. And HE stops us. And he starts to tell us how that the old man further up the hill is crazy because he is trying to go up the hill and he is old and has to push a walker. Then he goes on to tell us how he respects us and what we do even though it is a hard job. But he is saying all this in like a poem or something. And he is just waving his hands everywhere. So we share with him a mormon.org card and ask him if he would want to look it up. And he kind of says yes and want not then he turns to me and says “If I was gay I would probably hit on you cause you have beautiful eyes” I wasn’t sure how to take that but he got Elder Foster to agree with him. So we are just kind of laughing at this point and I ask him where he is going and he is almost taken back and he asked why I want to know. Elder Foster responds “Oh we just like being nosey” and so this guy is like “Noses!” And he gets close to my face and is looking at my nose and then he does the same to Elder Foster and then he comes back to me and he is like look at my nose! So I look and it was a nose. And then he tells me to touch his nose… So I touch his nose because he kept asking me to. He then told me I was doing it wrong and he grabbed my hand and used my hand to squeeze his nose, and I tell you what his nose was still a normal nose. But I couldn’t keep it in I was just laughing at this point and the best part is that he does the same thing to Elder Foster! So we both squeezed this guy’s nose. So we ask for his name and it’s Brian and we shake hands and he goes on his way. Probably one of the more random moments in my mission. We then have a dinner appointment with the Rollo’s and that was great. We had some spaghetti and it was really good. We were able to share a really cool though afterwards about Joseph Smith and the Book of Mormon and it all went well and that pretty much ended the night. So we get back to flat though to find Elder Peterson sick. He has now gone to bed to early and hopeful will be feeling better in the morning. Well may the 4th be with you!

May 5, 2017

Today was a pretty great day for myself! This morning though was not so good for Elder Foster and Elder Peterson they woke up feeling really sick so they stayed in the flat all day while I took Elder Firstbrook with me to Arbroath. Well morning studies were good I studied how to improve my teaching skills in the first appointment with investigators and what to focus a lot more on and what not to focus as much on. So we left the flat and walked down to the bus stop to get the bus to Arbroath like we do every morning and while we were standing there Brother and Sister Stronach pull up and ask us where we are going and we say Arbroath and they tell us to get in and they gave us a ride into Arbroath. It was very kind of them to do so. They were heading into Arbroath to get some gardening stuff. Well we get off in Arbroath and the very first person we talk to is inviting us over on Sunday so that was really cool. Then right after that we found another person who will be meeting us tomorrow. And then we had a few other people that we talked to that seemed promising. We then had some lunch from Morrison’s and we saw these really good looking doughnuts. SO of course we bought doughnuts they were really good. Well after that we around again finding around in the streets and we were able to find another person and set another appointment. I didn’t get a photo but we went up to this kind of cliff and had companion study at the top of it. We talked about the Book of Mormon and how to use it more in our missionary efforts. One of my favorite questions that we talked about was what Book of Mormon prophet or missionary would you like to be like and why? I said Alma the younger because he was someone who had made a lot of mistakes in his past but was able to find forgiveness and then just fully give himself to doing what the lord wanted him to do. I’m really trying at this moment to be like that and it’s not always easy but it is getting easier I would say. Well companion study ends and we go down to the college to wait for our lesson. He didn’t show up. So we went around trying by some less actives and we found one that invited us back for next Tuesday. The others have all moved off somewhere else and we don’t know where. We also had another lesson planned but that didn’t really hold. She just wasn’t it but we’ll be going back tomorrow. So we went around again street contacting we ran into another guy and we will be seeing him tomorrow should be an interesting visit. Well to end the night with an interesting story we went around to a less active/ Recent converts home for dinner. They are from Italy and they made us amazing pizza. They also know how to talk a lot it was all great and they had a super hyper dog and we ended up there longer than we wanted to. But I mostly wanted to see if there was any way we could get her to come back to church but that doesn’t seem like it’s going to happen. But it was really great. The two kids were really funny and they are just really nice people. So we left and we had a few mins to go around but we had to get the bus back to Montrose and we got back and our companions are still sick. So we’ll see what tomorrow has in store for us.

So today was just another day. Elder Foster got a bit better. So we went to Arbroath in the morning and nothing pretty much happened. We were able to see Fred today and that was about it. We had a really great dinner with the Watsons and then we got back to Arbroath to go try by some people but none of them answered. So here we are back at the flat.

Sunday! So woke up this morning and did some studies in the New Testament. I’m probably going to start reading Jesus the Christ again. Study it more in depth now that I’ve read it all. So we got to church and it was fast and testimony meeting which was great. I love hearing the testimonies of others. Then Sunday school we had a really good talk about seeking revelation and how do we get it and what to do to really ask for it. We were mostly reading Moroni 7 in verses 6-10 it pretty much says if we pray without real intent meaning that we really didn’t mean any of it or we just said a quick prayer just say something because we are in a rush then it doesn’t even matter. Pray is a way of speaking to our father in heaven and it through pray that we can be guided to know what we are asking. So pray with heart and you will get an answer or be given the blessing. So we talked all about that. Then priesthood we had an amazing lesson about honoring our family names and the name of Christ. We also talked about bit about Captain Moroni as well. It was a really good lesson. And after we had the Baptism of Lewis, young lad we’ve been around to go and teach and help him get ready for his baptism for today. So that was after church and that really great. The even had the confirmation right after because he is 8. Lewis asked Elder Foster and I to help with that so that was great. I would have to say I always feel the spirit when I hear some receiving the Gift of the Holy Ghost. It is just amazing and every time it always feels the same way. It is something that is so peaceful and powerful and at the same time. So after this we went on to Arbroath to go chap some doors and that was the night.

So facetiming I’ll probably be at the church and use either messenger or hangouts to do so. Hey that looks like a really good idea to try not sure about Scotland maybe some free Haggis for everyone and a Book of Mormon with it, but we’ll have to wait and see! It all seems like a pretty interesting week for you. Did you get the package that I sent to you with the book in it?

If we had the members giving us referrals and bringing their friends to us, we could help the ward grow!

So today was a pretty great day for myself because I was finally able to get this keyboard thing that you sent like 3 months ago. Well Today I went on Exchanges with the Zone Leaders in Dundee. I went off with Elder Worley, great guy. Well we were out in the town center and then we ran into my companion who was with Elder Tolk. Elder Foster came up and was like guess who has your package? And Elder Donovan has had my package for the last few months. One of the office people gave it to him and he just hasn’t been able to get it to me till now. Well going on later into to the day we ran into him and a few other Elders and we had a pretty good laugh about it and I was able to get it later tonight. So Elder Worley and I spent most of the day finding around Dundee, we were able to talk to a lot of interesting people. Didn’t set very many appointments but we were able to get a lot of phone numbers and find some people that would be interested in meeting up again. We had lunch at KFC. KFC is not the same here as is it is in America. In the States it’s like a real good meal here it’s like a piece of chicken on a piece of bread. Nothing to exciting but oh well it was still good. So we were then in the Wellgate mall for our companion study and we got ready to teach our lesson for tonight. Then went out and did some more finding out in the city center. There was a few other Elders and sisters doing exchanges well so there were so many missionaries all in the city center it was pretty crazy but pretty funny at the same time as well. So we would try to stop someone and then they would tell us that they had already been stopped by some other missionaries. Well after a while of that we came back to the zone leader flat for dinner and had some pizza and watched a fun game of chess between my companion, Elder Foster, and Elder Tolk. Elder Tolk crushed Elder Foster and we all had a good laugh. So after dinner we went to go teach this lesson to two guys named Leslie and Dave. They were at a members home, Collin. So we had prepared to teach them the Plan of Salvation. We sat down in this small flat it was a bit dark but was a very nice home. Leslie and Dave were able to tell me what they had learned last time from Elder Worley and Elder Tolk, and that really led us into the lesson. We had to keep it really simple because there is so much going on in the plan of salvation lesson as a whole. But it was a really great lesson. In Arbroath we haven’t been teaching as many people as I was hoping to. We’ve been getting a lot of first appointments and a lot of potential with people, but haven’t been to successful. So it was a good change to sit down and to give a really good lesson. We were even able to give them a baptismal date at the end of the lesson and they both accepted. Which is wonderful and with some time they will be ready for baptism. So all that was really cool. This is all kind of goes into our weekly planning from yesterday. Mostly because I’m sick of having no investigators. So we are going to try a lot of new things this next week. Hopefully we will be able to do a fireside soon and play the movie Meet the Mormons and get members to bring their friends to that and ask us questions about the church and see if we can get new people that way. We are also going around and trying to find a few places where we can put our names down as someone to talk to people that are going through a hard time and might need some help and so. So we will see. Well that pretty much ends the night of typing this all out on my new key board thing!

April 29, 2017

So a lot has happened this morning on the way back to Arbroath. We woke up and we went out with the Zone Leaders to a field where we got to play some frisbee with the other Elders that was really fun. There was about 14 of us there. The sisters where there as well so that was just a fun game between all the Dundee missionaries. We then came back and got ready for the day and the Zone leaders dropped us off at the Bus station. On the ride back I was thinking a lot about everything I had learned over the exchange as well as a few other things that came to mind. I am a very prideful person and I was thinking of the scripture Ether 12:27-28, 37. So this scripture has had a big impact on how I’ve been thinking and I’m really striving to love everyone that I can to really have that love to be the reason of my missionary work.

Also another thought. Don’t send any more stuff I have so much stuff and my bags are getting heavy!

So after a great lunch we went out and we had a lesson with this guy at the library at 1. So we get there and there he was. We were able to sit down and he had some interesting views on the world it was pretty cool. So we shared the restoration lesson with him and he took it really well. Just got to sit down in the library and go through it all. I would have to say my teaching skills have improved a lot from the time I first came out. So it feels pretty great when you are teaching and you just know where to go for a scripture so you can share about a certain point. So we asked him to be baptized and he said he would if he gets an answer and hopefully will be coming to church! So after that we went out to go finding and didn’t find anyone but had some really great conversations with people. Just walking around and talking to as many people as we can. Then just coming back to the flat for some dinner. Then going out again to go chap some more doors. Elder Peterson really likes the captain Moroni socks. They go great with the Temple socks that I got. So it’s about 9:30 and Elder Foster and I got back to the flat about half an hour ago from our time out chapping. We spent the whole time chapping just one street. We didn’t get anyone, more than anything just a got a bunch of not interested people, but we still had a few good conversations. There was about two guys that had a really nice conversation with us then that was about it. So on our way back we stopped into Morrison’s and I got a jar of Black Olives because I saw them and I thought they would taste good. Well Scottish Olives do not taste the same. So that was a bit disappointing but not much I can do there to improve the Olive world in Scotland.

April 30, 2017

Well it’s Sunday! This morning Daniel, the guy we taught yesterday, called and said that he doesn’t want to come to church because he wants to learn more about it before coming. So we’ll have to try to find a way to get him to feel comfortable coming because coming to church is the best way to learn about it. So we got to church and got all ready for sacrament and I can’t remember the names of the other two speakers but one talk was about family history and temple work, the other was about Jesus Christ is some way, and Elder Peterson talked about the Book of Mormon and the reasons why we have it. I thought it was a really good talk. Then Sunday school we didn’t have for the investigator class so Elder Peterson and I stayed in the room while Elder Foster and Elder Firstbrook went to the other Sunday school class. I guess something went down in there and it was awkward but not sure what. Well Elder Peterson and I had a great time! Elder Peterson showed me this really cool comparisons between the Plan of Salvation and the time line for the Book of Mormon. We then wrote out the history of the Jaredites, and we pretty much explained the whole history in Ether. It was really exciting to really talk about it and to understand it better. There is so much history that is given in the book of Ether I really wish we had all of it but that would be a lot. So after this we all got back together and it was a combined meeting for the last hour. Bishop played 3 videos. The first is the parable of Debtor and something I really can’t remember the name of it right now (I will find out). But that was about a young man who wanted something so he went into a lot of debt but he couldn’t get the money back to the man when the debt was due. So the man came to place in prison because he had signed a contract and that was that. So the man came back and just as he was about to take him the debtors friend came along and payed the debt for him and told the boy that he would pay him back and everything will be okay. So that was really cool. The next one was a talk by President Uchtdorf about doing our priesthood duties and to stand close together and lift where we stand. The last one was the talk from President Monson just this las General Conference, about reading the Book of Mormon daily. That if we are not we need to. I really got out of it how we need to be reading it daily because if we don’t then how do we expect the blessing it promises to come? Why only read it once then expect the heaven just open for the rest of our lives and that’s it? We need to read it because then it teaches us how we need to be and what we need to stand up for. If anyone is not reading it daily I would have to say there is a problem. It is a commandment and it help us if we read it.

So that was church and after there was a food and mingle thing. Never had one of those before or maybe I have just don’t remember. So that was great we got to go around and talk to everyone. Got a few appointments set up going to go around and visit some of the members hopefully. I would love to see the members more but there only seems to be a few that are interested in having us over. I would love to do any kind of service for them but nothing. As a missionary I would say this is one of the most upsetting parts where members don’t have any service for us to do, because here in Scotland it’s really through the members that the work is able to go forward. There are 4 missionaries between Montrose and Arbroath, and if we had the members giving us referrals and bringing their friends to us we could help the ward grow, I know we can! So that’s why we have now put together a study group for the members to come to and hopefully get some firesides going by the missionaries where we could show the members how to invite their friends along and help them do missionary work in their own lives. So fingers cross that this will all get going.

Well after all this we went down to Arbroath and went to some streets and started chapping. Not much success but we are getting there. Had a few good conversations but nothing too much. So we’ll see. Then just came back to the flat to end the night with some dinner and companion study.

So look at that! It works! Pretty great! So it sounds like you have had a pretty interesting week! I’ll give a read to Elder Rasbands talk again and tell you what I think about it and what not. It’s also great to hear that you went out with Annukkah! And getting ready for summer already? That’s this month! I still feel like I just got to the mission yesterday. Time is flying by for sure.
